Dance with Dolphins Whale Watching & Camping Expedition
Tour Itinerary

Day One
kalpitiya

Arrival at the Campsite in Kalpitiya for lunch.

Despite its natural beauty, the western peninsular area of KALPITIYA in the Puttalam district of Sri Lanka is remarkably untouched by tourism.  But for those lucky enough to visit, there is a multitude of things to see and do!  With the small close-knit fishing community dominating the lives of the local people, visitors can get a real insight into the working life away from the city.  After watching the night fishing boats return in the morning, a visit to one of the fish markets offers the opportunity to choose the evening meal direct from the fresh catch!

Campsite is located in the beach near the small fishing village of Kandukkuliya on the west coast of the Puttalam district of Sri Lanka, approximately 6 km from Kalpitiya itself.  The Campsite is a true escape from modern-day civilization. The guests have to reach the campsite in a boat and can enjoy the romanticism on the unpolluted beach under a millions of stars.  Flaming torches light up the area from which guests can relax and marvel at the beautiful open starry skies whilst enjoying a hearty barbecue dinner of locally caught fresh fish!  A night at Campsite wouldn’t be complete without a walk along the deserted beach to look for the sea turtles that come ashore to lay eggs – an unforgettable experience that is not to be missed!

Enjoy the Sri Lankan Lunch at the campsite.

Evening at leisure.

Dinner and overnight stay at the Campsite.

Lunch at the Campsite.

Visit the Kalpitiya Town and fishing villages in the evening.

Visit the Dutch Fort that was constructed in 1676 on the spot where the Portuguese had a stockade and a Jesuit chapel. The Fort is located approx. 1 km from town’s entrance, at the extreme tip of the peninsular.  Roofless, but otherwise in reasonable condition, the fort is four-sided with two whole and two half bastions. The walls are about 4 meters high and inside are the remnants of the chapel, a commander's house, barrack rooms, a prison and several go downs.

Visit the local Dutch church (connected to the ort by an underground tunnel).   The church, called St. Peter’s Kerk lies about a half-mile west of the fort.  Although the church is Dutch in origin, it now displays the architecture of the British who rebuilt the church in 1840.
