On a sweeping unspoiled beach on Sri Lanka's southwest coast shared only with village fishermen, Max Wadiya offers a sanctuary of peace and tranquility.
The main two-story villa with three double bedrooms and en-suite bathrooms is ideal for families or a group of friends. We provide infant cots, playpens, highchairs and car seats. Separated by a charming courtyard are two suites, each with a mini pantry, perfect for couples seeking seclusion. All are tastefully appointed with antique colonial furnishings and local art.
Every room, with its spacious verandah, overlooks a gorgeous garden dotted of swaying coconut palms, swinging hammocks and gazebos leading to the sea.
Conveniences include a washing machine, dryer and ironing facilities on request. A wireless provides internet access throughout the property. Rooms are equipped with an intercom, a music system and a docking station for your iPod or iPhone. The office has a telephone, fax and printer.
An infinity salt-water swimming pool, long enough for laps, with an attached pool for toddlers awaits, but the ocean beckons to sea bathers and body surfers.
Our team of Ayurvedic doctors and massage practitioners will ease away your stress in our new massage pavilion. Yoga and meditation classes are also available if arranged in advance.
Our staff of 7, led by our ever-smiling manager, Ranjan, will make sure you are taken care of in a manner beyond 5 star. Janaka, our gentle giant of a chef, will prepare the most delectable Sri Lankan meals. Our kitchen also serves a wide variety of Western and other Asian cuisines. You can dine in the gazebo, on your private verandah or under the stars on the beach with the waves lapping by your table.
Watch the fishermen bring in the morning catch, hear the chatter of the parakeets flocking to roost in our coconut trees and watch the evening sky blaze in brilliant tropical sunsets.
The little fishing town of Ambalangoda, where Max Wadiya is located, is well known for its mask-making, devil dancing and antique furniture. The town has supermarkets, banks, a fisheries harbour, fresh produce markets and a train and bus station connecting you to all parts of the island.
Water sports are available a short ride away and the resort towns of Bentota and Hikkeduwa, with their bars and restaurants are close by.
We can arrange airport transfers, transport and trips to all parts of the island.
Max Wadiya is increasingly moving towards a "green" environment with solar panels for water heating, energy saving bulbs, a water harvesting tank, a recycling system and a compost box. Whenever possible we purchase organically grown fresh produce and poultry.
In recent years giant sea turtles have come up onto our beach to lay their eggs and we have been working with the local fishermen to protect them from two-legged or feathered predators until they hatch and the baby turtles are guided safely back into the sea.
